When the electricity goes, most of the 12V batteries around you can still keep your basics running. That’s what the Hope’s H-501 is for. Clip it onto a car battery or a dry battery, plug your appliance into the universal socket, and you’ve got 230V AC for a fan, a few lights, a TV, a laptop or your router. It clips on in seconds, with nothing to install or wire up.
12V input
Two copper clip cables come in the box. Clip them to a car battery or any 12V source and it’s ready.
230V output
The universal socket takes normal plugs, so your appliances run without an adapter.
Built-in protection
It cuts out on overload, a short circuit or overheating, and the fuse can be replaced.
Cooling fan
There’s a fan inside to keep it cool, so it can run without getting hot.

What the H-501 can run
It’s rated for 500W, so it’s happy with smaller electronics. As a rough guide:
- LED lights and energy savers, 5–40W
- A fan (ceiling, table or pedestal), 50–80W
- An LED TV up to about 40", 40–90W
- A laptop with its charger, 45–90W
- A Wi-Fi router or ONT, 10–20W
- Phone and tablet chargers, 10–30W
One thing to keep in mind: this is a small inverter for lights, fans, TVs, chargers and the like. It won’t run heavy items like an iron, water pump, fridge, heater, motor or air conditioner.
